The Beatrice Tinsley
Building
The Beatrice Tinsley Building is an innovative new building utilising the existing foundations of the building it replaces. The building provides teaching space and offices as part of the wider regional science and innovation centre on site. It is the first building in New Zealand that uses four stories of LVL moment frames (the timber post-tensioning was developed by the University of Canterbury) in one direction and cross braces in the other direction. The floors are Potius™ Double Tee panels with an acoustic ceiling.
